Two groups of Congress workers fought with one another on the streets in broad daylight at Asian Theatre in Uppal ahead of Telangana party chief A Revanth Reddy’s tour of his Malkajgiri constituency to survey the damage done to residential areas by the recent rains.
A group of men owing allegiance to a local Congress leader beat up two workers of another leader, with the video of the fight going viral on social media.
It appeared like a scene from an action movie as the supporters of the leader thrashed the other two workers mercilessly.Initially, the victims tried to resist, but as they were outnumbered they tried to flee. The assailants, however, caught and thrashed them.
Trouble between ticket aspirants
What sparked the trouble was that the two workers tore off a banner taking exception to the missing image of their leader, M Parameswar Reddy. This angered the followers of another leader, R Lakshma Reddy.
Soon arguments broke out which led to the assault on the two workers.
There were only a few policemen at the spot, who found it difficult to restrain the workers who were charging at their victims.Even though one constable held two persons, they continued to kick their rivals, trying to wrench free.
Finally, the police managed to drive away the assailants and the two victims too left the scene.
The two leaders are aspirants of Uppal Assembly ticket and each one wanted to be seen as the one who deserves the ticket.
Irked by the absence of the picture of Parmaeswar Reddy, his supporters tore up the banner.
