The movie “Bawaal” brought together Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor for the first time.It was directed by Nitesh Tiwari and released on an online streaming platform on July 21.The film quickly became a hot topic on social media, with viewers sharing their initial reactions.
One standout scene in the movie was the introduction of Varun’s character, Ajju, where he paid homage to the famous actor Thalapathy Vijay.
In this scene, Ajju explained the importance of expressing emotions while dancing, not just through body movements but also by showing excitement on the face.To illustrate this, he danced to Vijay’s hit song “Arabic Kuthu,” which garnered attention and reactions from Vijay’s fans online.
“Bawaal” narrates the love story of Ajju (Varun Dhawan) and Nisha (Janhvi Kapoor).Interestingly, the film incorporated elements from World War II into its storyline.
One of the reasons that surprised many was the decision to release “Bawaal” directly on an OTT (Over-The-Top) platform instead of a theatrical release. In an interview with Variety, Varun Dhawan explained that the film was intended for a global audience, and this motivated the makers to choose the direct-to-digital route.
The producer, Sajid Nadiadwala, had a vision to pitch the movie on an international scale. However, releasing it globally by himself seemed challenging, and that’s where streaming platforms like Amazon came in as valuable partners.
During the interview, Varun emphasized that the OTT platform has a “democratic” nature, where only quality content survives, and subpar films do not stand out.Hence, they believed that this medium could help reach a wider audience for “Bawaal.”
In addition to the intriguing storyline and star-studded cast, Varun Dhawan’s recreation of the Arabic Kuthu steps from Thalapathy Vijay’s popular song in the movie “Beast” added an exciting touch to “Bawaal.” The song itself had achieved immense popularity, with over 477 million views on YouTube, and Vijay’s dance moves had become a viral sensation on social media.
