Abbas, the former actor who began his career with the Tamil film Kadhal Desam in 1996, recently opened up about his life after stepping away from the film industry for nearly eight years.He has also appeared in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films.
Starting at the age of 19, Abbas achieved early success in the industry.However, some of his later films didn’t do well, leaving him in financial distress and unable to afford basic necessities like house rent.
At first, due to his pride, he refrained from seeking help from his colleagues, but eventually, he approached producer RB Choudary for work.He got the opportunity to act in the film Pooveli (1998), alongside Karthik and Kausalya.
After doing a few films and TV shows, Abbas felt bored and dissatisfied with his work, leading him to decide on quitting acting and settling abroad.He even advised his friends not to watch his Bollywood debut film as he considered it subpar.
Facing bankruptcy on four occasions, Abbas worked as a bike mechanic and drove taxis in New Zealand to provide for his family.
Abbas has an impressive filmography, including hit films like Padayappa (1999), Hey Ram (2000), Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000), Aanandham (2001), and Minnale (2001).
His last appearance was in the 2015 film Pachakkallam, where he starred alongside Maqbool Salmaan and Royaz Khan.
In his interview with Galatta Plus, Abbas revealed the struggles he faced during his career and the reasons for his eventual departure from the film industry.
