Los Angeles, Sep 13 : Jean Smart took home the Emmy for the best actress in comedy due to her role in “Hacks” at the 74th annual Television Academy Awards.Smart was awarded in an extremely competitive category, beating other nominations Rachel Brosnahan (‘The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel’), Kaley Cuoco (‘The Flight Attendant’), Quinta Brunson (‘Abbott Elementary’), Elle Fanning (‘The Great’) and Issa Rae (‘Insecure’), reports Variety.
Smart was awarded for Hacks Season 2, which aired on HBO Max beginning in May.The show was renewed for a second season in June, shortly after the second season premiered.
Smart is now on her second consecutive victory in the category following her victory in “Hacks” Season 1 last year.
She is nominated 12 times for Emmy Awards throughout her career with five wins, including this year’s win and last year’s.
Smart has previously been awarded twice for the best guest actress in a comedy for the film ‘Frasier’, and for the best supporting actress in the comedy “Samantha Who?
In 2022’s Emmys, HBO & HBO Max received the highest number of nominations of any other platform with an aggregate total of 140 nominations across every one of their series.
The drama series ‘Succession’ received the show with the highest number of nominations of this year with 25 nominations, while “Ted Lasso and HBO’s The White Lotus each received 20 nominations.
Netflix was ranked second overall with the nominations of 105, which is which is down from the previous year’s 129.However, this year Netflix made waves with the international hit “Squid Game,” which was the first non-English-language television series in Emmy’s history to be nominated for the award for best drama.
