Los Angeles, Sep 13 : Hollywood star Michael Keaton won the Emmy for Best Actor in a Limited Anthology Series at the 74th Television Academy Awards, for his performance in the critically acclaimed ‘Dopesick series.
He was in competition with Colin Firth in ‘The Staircase’, Andrew Garfield in ‘Under the Banner of Heaven’, Oscar Isaac in ‘Scenes from a Wedding’, Himmesh Patel in “Station Eleven,” as well as Sebastian Stan in ‘Pam & Tommy’, according to Collider.

Keaton was the lead in the film as Keaton played Dr.Samuel Finnix, a small-town doctor in mining town who is witness to the terrible effects of OxyContin for himself, after giving it to his patients suffering from chronic pain.

From the very first episode viewers were captivated with the heart-wrenching tale that is unfortunately very close to the truth for the majority of people across the country (and around the globe).

The series, which is limited to a few episodes, is a re-creation of Beth Marcy’s bestseller “Dopesick: Dealers and Doctors and the Drug company that addicted America and provides an eerie glimpse into the opoid crisis produced by Big Pharma.The Sacklers are the most prominent.

“Dopesick” was written by Danny Strong, who was co-creator of “Empire” and wrote screenplays of ‘Recount’ Game Change’, as well as Lee Daniels ‘The Butler’.

Dopesick is directed by ‘Rainman director ‘Rain Man’ and ‘Diner’ Barry Levinson.

Additionally to Keaton The show also has an extensive cast of impressive talents, many of which have been nominated tonight.

Peter Sarsgaard, Michael Stuhlbarg, Will Poulter, John Hoogenakker Kaitlyn Dever Rosario Dawson, Phillipa Soo and Jake McDorman round out the cast list.
