Phnom Penh, Sep 12 : Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has said on Monday that Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members should cooperate to tackle challenges to ensure peace, stability , and prosperity.Cambodia is currently the ASEAN chair until 2022, as per Xinhua news agency.
“In the current climate of geopolitical rivalries are growing more intense, ASEAN must act as an example to follow and collaborate to ensure peace and stability, as well as prosperity by strengthening ASEAN unity and centrality , and insisting on multilateral agreements and partnerships to tackle challenges,” he said in an address at the ceremony of opening of 2022’s ASEAN Leadership and Partnership Forum.
“Furthermore, ASEAN must also play a major role and act as an avenue for dialogue and cooperation, while promoting an open and inclusive, transparent and rules-based regional structure,” he added.
The Prime Minister stated that, as the ASEAN chair until 2022, Cambodia has worked actively in expanding and enhancing the cooperation and partnership of the bloc in different forms and fields such as socio-economics as well as trade and investment with friendly countries as well as development partners as well as international communities.
ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
