Ballia (Uttar Pradesh) 12 Sep : The doctors at the state-run hospital in Ballia took care of patients with mobile torchlights following an extended power outage.Video clips of doctors examining a female patient lying on a stretcher as well as others gathered around are now trending on social media.
“There was a disruption for a while as we were preparing the generator’s batteries,” said Dr R.D.Ram an orthopaedic surgeon who is also the chief in-charge of the hospital district.
He said that the hospital had backup generators, but it took a while to locate the batteries.
When asked why the generator didn’t have the battery he replied, “There is always the possibility of the batteries being stolen. Therefore, they are removed when they are not in the use.”
Many patients complained that frequent power interruptions have become the norm of the hour and that the hospital administration usually does not utilize the generator.
Ballia had seen heavy rain over the weekend that caused power outages.
