Kiev 12th of September : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of “depriving citizens of heat and light” by causing power outages across the eastern region of the war-ravaged nation to retaliate against the counter-offensive that was launched by Kiev.
Blackouts have been reported to have affected approximately 9 million residents in the eastern regions, including Kharkiv, Donetsk, Poltava, Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk.

It is coming after Ukraine declared that it had retaken 3000 sq.km in the frenzied offensive in the eastof Ukraine, according to the BBC.

The vital Russian-held supply cities of Izyum and Kupiansk were captured by Ukraine on the 10th of September.Russia has also announced its troops to withdraw from both towns and claimed that this will allow the towns to “regroup”.

In an interview with the BBC, Izyum Mayor Valerii Marchenko stated that residents will be returning to their town in approximately 10 days, which is the first time it has been seized by Russia in March.

The Mayor said that, according to him the city was the most important logistical hub of the Russian army, since it is the gateway to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk in the Donbas region, from where Moscow would like to expand.

In spite of the taking back of cities and areas, Russia still holds around five percent of Ukraine.
