Dubai 12th September : After securing the Asia Cup 2022 title, Sri Lanka head coach Chris Silverwood said he had faith in the ability of his team, and that they all stood up when it was needed for the team.A stunning performance by Bhanuka Rajapaksa Wanindu Hasaranga and Pramod Madushan guided Sri Lanka to Asia Cup 2022 championship with an impressive 23-win against Pakistan in the final match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
It is Sri Lanka’s sixth Asia Cup title — 1986, 1997, 2004 and 2008 as well as 2014 and 2022.After losing the opening match against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and then again Pakistan to claim the trophy in the 2022 Asia Cup.
“Great thing is that at any time, everyone is willing to put their hands on the table.It was just a matter of finding an approach.
I was confident in the potential in the squad,” coach Silverwood told the broadcasters following the game.
“Came in with a very young seam attack -watching the players perform was awe-inspiring.It’s not appropriate to pick one player out, it’s been a collective work,” he added.
Chamika Karunaratne who picked up two important wickets in the final, stated that players were pushing their limits.
“We are winning after seven years, we’re an entirely different team.The team is full of young players, we feel very happy.
We just wanted to fight and do our best.Players were at their limit.
Everyone was trying their best following the defeat in the first game (against Afghanistan),” said Karunaratne.
