New Delhi, Sep 11 : Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar believes that bringing in the pacer Deepak Chahar will benefit the Rohit Sharma-led team in the Men’s T20 World Cup to be held in Australia in October and November.Chahar was recently returned from a lengthy layoff due to an injury in the ODI tour of Zimbabwe in August He was chosen as fast bowler Avesh Khan’s replacement ahead of India’s final game in Super Four stage of 2022 Asia Cup, going wicketless for 28 runs in his four overs.
Chahar was a part of in two of India’s three games on tour of Zimbabwe and picked up five wickets with 3/27 in his return game in Harare. He was selected as one of the standbys in the squad.
He traveled to Dubai with the Indian team for the tournament and he was seen doing the work in in training sessions.
“I would suggest Deepak Chahar.
He is the player I’d definitely take a look at as it’s Australia and there’ll be more bounce. Also, with this kind of movement he creates with the ball he has invented.”
“He is someone who needs to be considered in the event that.you know, we’ve always picked four bowlers for either the Australia or South Africa tour and one of them is wasted.
However, in the fast-paced event such as the T20 I think going with Deepak Chahar is beneficial to the Indian team,” said Gavaskar on India Today.
In addition, in the support of Chahar’s selection in India’s team for the the Men’s T20 World Cup, Robin Uthappa said that he thinks that Chahar as the Rajasthan pacer, as well as young fast bowler left arm Arshdeep Singh as the pace team with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel.
“He (Bhuvneshwar) is expected to bowl three in the top six, and then bowl one in the middle or towards the end.But I believe that we’ll have Harshal and Bumrah mostly bowling in the dying overs. And he may play to the tail end, or perhaps just prior to the death overs he will bowl the over or in case you require to take a wicket in the middle overs.”
“So I’m thinking that’s the way they’ll employ him.I think they’ll use with five fast bowlers, and I believe Arshdeep and Deepak Chahar will be the two other bowlers in the absence of Bumrah, Bhuvi and Harshal. And Hardik is the sixth fast bowler” stated Uthappa in ESPNCricinfo’s T20 Timeout show.
Australia was initially set to host the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2020 however, it was postponed due to Covid-19.It was re-scheduled to take place from October 16 through November 13 this year with the final being played in the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
