Washington September 11, : Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif along with other top officials are scheduled to arrive in New York on September 19 to attend the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, UN sources informed Dawn.Sharif is scheduled to speak to Sharif is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 23 and is scheduled to travel back to Pakistan the following evening.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Federal Minister of Broadcasting and Information Maryam Aurangzeb will join Sharif.
The delegation will also include Foreign Secretary as well as other senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other departments, Dawn reported.
The Pakistan Prime Minister is expected to be at the opening session of the UN General Assembly on September 20th, a day after he arrives in New York.On the same day he will participate in a summit discussion on reforms to education that will also discuss ways to manage with the negative effects of the pandemic on education.
Sharif will be attending two more discussions on climate change and food insecurity, Dawn reported.
Bhutto and Khar will travel to Washington on September 25 to attend two-way meetings with US officials.
They will remain in Washington, the US capital until September 27.
While the trip to the United Nations has its own significance, one of the major items on the agenda of the Prime Minister — a bilateral visit with US Vice President Joe Biden — is still undetermined.
The 2019 General Assembly is particularly significant because it will be the first summit in person of world leaders to the UN since the year 2019.The sessions of 2021 and 2020 were converted to virtual meetings due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
