The Oval (London), Sep 10, : England’s veteran pacer Stuart Board has become the second most successful pacer in cricket history, after tying Glenn McGrath during the third Test against South Africa here on Saturday.Broad claimed 441 runs in 12.2 overs.South Africa were bundled out for 118 in their first innings of the Test on the third day of the match .The first day was ruined by rain, and the third was abandoned because of the demise of Elizabeth II, Queen of England.Elizabeth II.
The four wickets from Saturday’s match helped Broad climb towards 563 wickets in Test cricket, the same amount as Australian legend McGrath.
On the seventh of July, Board claimed the wickets of Ryan Rickelton (11), Khaya Zondo, Keshav Maharaj (18) and Anrich Nortje (7) as the 36-year old pacer increased his total to 563 wickets in 292 innings of 159 Test matches with an average of 27.84.
McGrath took 563 wickets in 124 Tests with an average of 21.64.
All in all, he is sixth on the list of most successful Test bowlers.He is behind Sri Lanka’s Muthiah Muralitharan (800), late Australian spinner Shane Warne (708), his compatriot Jimmy Anderson (665) and McGrath (563).
