New Delhi, Sep 10 : As as many as 173 instances of lumpy virus have been identified in the last few days in cattle in the capital city, Minister of Environment, Forest & Wildlife, Gopal Rai said here on Saturday.It comprises 45 cows that come from Gol Dairy 16 cows from the Najafgarh area 40 in the Rewla Khanpur area, and other animals from nearby villages, he said.
In a press conference here, he said that most of the cases have been discovered in South and West District of national capital Delhi.The virus that is lumpy has been also detected in the states of Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, he added.
Speaking to the media, Rai said the Delhi government has set up two mobile clinics for veterinary care and established 11 teams of rapid response to take samples.Four teams were established to raise awareness about the disease, he added.
The city’s government has created a special control room with helpline number 8287848586 that can be used for inquiries concerning lumpy virus.But, he said that there is no risk to humans with the virus.
Lumpy skin diseases is a virus that can spread to cattle through flies, mosquitoes lice and wasps through direct contact, and also by drinking water and food that has been contaminated.The disease can cause nodules and fever on the skin.It could be fatal.
The Delhi minister has said the ward for isolation was being established in Rewla Khanpur in southwest Delhi for cattle that have been abandoned and suffer from lumpy skin diseases.
