Bengaluru 9 September : The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari highlighted the significance of adopting a multimodal transportation system to help the country attain its goal of becoming an economy of five trillion dollars in the next five years.
In his address to the 41st session of the Transport Development Council (TDC) in Bengaluru on Friday, he opined that the Centre and states must collaborate in the next five years in order to change the transportation sector if the country is to reach the goal of a $5 trillion economy.

“There is an urgent need for us to get rid of our differences, join forces and develop future policies that will ensure that the transportation system is able to run using the energy generated in the country,” he said.

Gadkari advocated a comprehensive approach to developing the transportation sector in order to meet India’s economic goals in the next five years.”At the moment, roads are used for the transportation of 70 percent of the merchandise.It is essential to implement broad-based strategies to reduce this.It is essential not to rely only on road transport , but also railways, water transport and airports, which must be connected seamlessly.”

Gadkari said efforts must be made to boost the size of the auto industry to 7.5 lakh crore to 15 lakh crore in the next five years, to help establish India as a leading auto manufacturing hub in the world.

Gadkari stated that this could only be accomplished through the adoption of top technology to the Indian road sector and the emphasis on the use of digital contactless technology across all States and UTs.Gadkari said that all diesel buses must be replaced with electric buses to cut down on the amount of pollution and cost.

Gadkari stated that all stakeholders must commit to achieving the vision of the Prime Minister of “Atmanirbhar Bharati”.

He stressed that a serious and thoughtful approach is needed to prevent road accidents and tough decisions will need to be taken to safeguard the lives of people.

Ministers of transport from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Goa, Karnataka, Delhi and Tamil Nadu were present in the 41st Transport Development Council (TDC).
