New Delhi, Sep 7 : The Supreme Court on Wednesday orally noted that a racket is being run in the name of bonds and the workers take advantage of it.A bench that was comprised of Justice Hemant Gupta, observed that there is no such thing as bond labourers, and instead, these workers take the money and then work in brick kilns.
The bench, which also includes Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, said: “They come from backward regions.They get the money, consume food, then quit.”
The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed of the late activist Swami Agnivesh on behalf of a woman who had claimed she was victimized by an employee of the brick kiln manufacturer in RS Pura sub-division of Jammu.
Counsel representing Jammu and Kashmir, submitted before the bench that the case was investigated following a case was filed.
But, in 2018, the case was closed because the person who was victimized, and claimed to be the associate of the brick kiln manufacturer could not be identified.
The bench observed that an elaborate response was submitted by the Jammu and Kashmir government.
The bench also said that this is an illegal racket in the country.”These laborers are only taking advantage of this bond laborer thing”.
It was reported that in 2012 the couple wished to move back to their home state However, the contractor requested the couple to pay the sum of Rs 3 lakh in order to release them of their services.The woman was then confined to a solitary confinement that was illegal, and where she was repeatedly sexually assaulted.
