Kochi Metro Rail Project Phase II is not approved by the Cabinet.

New Delhi, Sep 7 : The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved the execution of the Kochi Metro Rail Project Phase-II starting from the JLN Stadium to Infopark via Kakkanad, a length of 11.17 kilometers with eleven stations for a price of the sum of 1,957.05 crore.
The government has stated that the preparatory work for Phase II, including the expansion of the Seaport Airport Road, are moving along well.

The Phase-IA of the project that runs from Aluva to Petta that covers a length of 25.6 kilometers with 22 stations with the estimated price of the sum of Rs 5,181.79 crore is completed currently.It is currently being carried out as a public sector project.

The construction activities associated with the project are completed and the project is all set for the inauguration.

The Phase-IB of the project of 1.2 km from SN Junction to Thripunithura Terminal is currently being built as a project of the state sector.

Kochi is one of the cities that is most populated city in Kerala and is part of an extended metropolitan region that is the most populated urban city in the state.

The Kochi metropolitan region had a total population of 25.8 lakh in 2021.It is expected to increase to 33.12 lakh by 2031.
