Apple CEO Tim Cook pledges aid to China’s quake-ravaged China

Hong Kong, Sep 7 : In an effort to aid those affected of the devastating earthquake in China, Apple CEO Tim Cook on Wednesday pledged to contribute to aid efforts in Sichuan province.
“Apple will contribute to ongoing efforts to rebuild and relief Our thoughts and prayers are with all families and communities that have been affected by the earthquake in Sichuan,” Tim Cook stated in an update on his official account on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo.

Cook’s promise came just days after he offered condolences to the victims and pledged assistance to Pakistan which was hit by floods, which caused the displacement of over 33 million people and destroyed more than one billion homes, according to South China Morning Post.

Greater China and Europe comprise two of the largest markets for Apple in the world.

In the second quarter of the year, iPhone sales in China rose 25% from the previous year to 9.9 million units.

In the past the company also made aid to victims of devastating flooding in China’s northern Shanxi and central Henan provinces.

As per the report China’s second-largest video gaming corporation NetEase as well as smartphone maker Xiaomi have also donated 1.5 million yuan as well as 1 million yuan, respectively to the cause.

The E-commerce major Alibaba Group Holding, social video and media gaming giant Tencent Holdings, TikTok owner ByteDance and electric vehicle maker BYD Auto and Li Auto, as well as the electric car battery maker CATL have each allocated 5 million yuan for rehabilitation efforts in Sichuan.
