Chennai 7 September : The dispute over leadership in AIADMK – the principal opposition party of Tamil Nadu — is now before the Supreme Court with the party leader and former Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam (OPS) petitioning the apex court in opposition to the ruling of September 2 of the Madras High Court division bench.
A division bench of the Madras High Court comprising Justices M.Duraiswamy and Sunder Mohan had stayed the judgment of one judge on August 17, thereby nullifying the AIADMK general council meeting of July 11 in which Edappadi K.Palaniswami (EPS) was appointed the only general secretary.
A resolution that was passed by the General Council of the party on July 11 been appoint EPS as the only general secretary of the party.
This led to the dissolution of the two leadership of the party.
The division bench of the Madras High Court also said that there was no chance of OPS as well as EPS working again together and also that the one bench decision has led to a functional deadlock in the party.
The AIADMK has been in an intense power struggle since the defeat it suffered in the 2021 Assembly elections, amidst a blame game in the party.
With the strong Thevar community offering all the support for its hero, O.Panneerselvam (OPS) the verdict of the Supreme Court is more important for OPS because it will decide the fate of his political career.
