Kolkata 7th September : A division bench of the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered every party in the PIL concerning the growth of property of the relatives of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to file affidavits on the merits of the admissibility of the petition.The counsel for the relatives of the Chief Minister claimed that the petition was not admissible as the petitioner Tarunjyoti Tiwari, who is an advocate in addition, is an active participant of the BJP and, therefore, the petition is motivated.
The PIL filed by Tiwari However, the PIL filed by Tiwari does not contain the names of Mamata Banerjee, or her nephew, nor does it mention Trinamool Congress national General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee.
In his defense, Tiwari said that the Chief Minister’s sister-in law, Kajori Banerjee, who is also a councillor with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, had identified both social and business work as a profession.
Tiwari claimed that the PIL is designed to determine exactly where she gets the majority of her earnings.
After hearing both sides and both sides, the bench of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastav and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj ordered both parties to submit their arguments on the admissibility of the PIL on or before November 11.The next day of hearing was set on November 28.
After the PIL was filed, Mamata Banerjee had made some remarks about the matter at an interview with the media on the 31st of August.
She was adamant that if anyone could locate any property in her name or in the name of her family members that involves illegal invasion of government land, they can remove the property by using bulldozers.
“Even my consent is not required for this.
I have requested the chief secretary to carry out an independent inquiry in the issue.If there’s a single accusation against a members of my family of unlawfully occupying government land the family member in question is accountable,” the Chief Minister has said.
Banerjee has also stated she was adamant that she is not able to stay with her family members.
“They remain separate like nuclear families.
We only get together for social occasions,” Banerjee had said.
