Jaipur 5th September : In the ongoing debates regarding the choice of the new Congress President, Rajya Sabha MP and CWC member Pramod Tiwari has pushed for the candidature of a Gandhi family member to be elected the next chief of the party.Tiwari has expressed concern of the possibility of a break-up in the party should a non-Gandhi politician politician is elected President.
Speaking to the media in the Congress headquarters in Jaipur, Tiwari said: “The programme for the election of the Congress President is out and anyone who would like to nominate is able to file the nomination papers.
“Contrary to the opinions of the Congressmen it is my personal desire to see the Gandhi family should lead the way.The President should come from the Gandhi family. The reason for this is that, If the Gandhi family doesn’t lead there could be factions in the party.”
Tiwari however, did not answer the question of who should be the President, deciding between Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
In fact, prior to Tiwari many leaders had argued that the Gandhi family member could be appointed the Congress President.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has stated many times that Rahul Gandhi should be party’s President.
Many leaders and ministers in Rajasthan have made explicit statements regarding creating Rahul Gandhi the president.
The name of Gehlot was also mentioned in the debate about the President, however he himself is pushing for making Rahul Gandhi the party’s chief.
