New Delhi, Sep 5 : Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Monday compared Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to Mir Jafar, the nobleman of the mid-18th century who stood with the British against the Nawab of Bengal Siraj-ud Daula. “He is not just Assam Chief Minister.
He is also the criminal of BJP and is tasked to complete Congress after he has received all the information out of Congress. If someone is similar to Mir Jafar, its Himanta Biswa Sarma and there is one additional Mir Jafar in Jammu and Kashmir but he is Mir Jafar of the North East,” he said during a demonstration against Sarma in the city by party officials from Assam.
Ramesh’s reference in the interview to ‘Mir Jaffar’ of Jammu and Kashmir was a reference to the the veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad.Azad recently resigned from the Congress and announced the launch of his own party.
Sarma was with Congress and was a minister in Tarun Gogoi’s cabinet before he joined the BJP.
On Monday morning, Ramesh took aim at Azad and accused Azad of justifying his treachery and unleashing a slanderous campaign.
“After an extended career, and courtesy to the person he’s been asked to slander, and by conducting interviews in a sloppy manner and with no regard to who he is, Mr.Azad diminishes himself further. What is he worried of that is justifying his deeds every day? He is easily exposed, so why do he have to not lower himself to the level of his peers? “, Ramesh tweeted.
