J&K Chief electoral officer announces an all-party conference

Jammu 5th September : J&K chief electoral officer (CEO) Hirdesh Kumar has scheduled an all-party gathering at 4 p.m.on Monday, to discuss the general revision of the electoral rolls.
The invitation was sent to all political parties, and the democratic process beginning after the delimitation date will be discussed during the meeting sources said.

The CEO will clarify about 25 lakh eligible voters in the UT.His previous comments regarding this issue has ruffled many a political feather within the political parties, with the exception of the BJP.

The CEO will eliminate doubts regarding this issue, despite the fact that the government claimed that there has been an inaccurate representation of facts in this matter Sources added.

The government has stated that the revision of electoral rolls will be inclusive of residents of Jammu and Kashmir and that the rise in number will consist of those who have reached the age of 18 in the year of the 1st of October or earlier.

In his most recent media appearance the CEO had stated, “After the abrogation of Article 370, many people who weren’t registered voters in the Assembly elections are now included in the voter’s register to vote, and no individual has to be permanent residents of the state/UT to be eligible for this purpose”.

The schedule states that the Integrated Draft Electoral Roll would be released by all Election Registration Officers by September 15.

The time between September 15 to October 25 is scheduled for the filing of claims and objections , and all actions in this regard should be completed by the 10th of November.Examining of health indicators and getting the Commission’s approval to finalize publication, update the database and printing of supplements must be completed before November 19.The Final Electoral Roll would be released on November 25 2022.
