Zagreb 3rd September : Croatia reported altogether 12,855 fires in the first eight months of this year, with an average of 53 fires per day according to Croatia’s association for firefighting.This is a significant increase from the 10,431 fires that were reported during the same time in the previous year, the association declared in an announcement on Friday.
The fire catastrophes are said to have killed 26 people in Croatia this year including a firefighter however, the number of deaths due to fire totaled 19 in the same time frame of the previous year, according to the report.
In the meantime, Croatia registered 132 fire-related injuries in comparison to an increase of 97 in the same time frame of earlier in the year, Xinhua news agency reported.
Around 56,000 hectares of land has been destroyed by fires in the first half of this year this year, an increase of 160 percent from the same time of earlier in the year, according to the report.
Extreme droughts and heat waves are the main reason for the numerous fires in Croatia this year.
