New York, Sep 2 : In the midst of the lack of monkeypox vaccines, US holds more than 80 percent of the Jynneos jab that fights monkeypox, yet it has only 35 percent of the cases worldwide of this virus, according to a report on Friday.Based on the Public Citizen analysis, the US has 22 times more doses of radon than the EU as well as the UK.
“Once again vaccines for an outbreak aren’t readily accessible in the majority of countries, not just in the African states that have been fighting monkeypox for a long time,” Peter Maybarduk, director of Public Citizen’s Access to Medicines Programme, stated in an announcement.
“We are still waiting for President Biden to present an action plan to combat the global spread of monkeypox and avoid making the terrible failures of the Covid crisis,” Maybarduk added.
The study compared access to vaccines and cases of monkeypox in more than twelve countries.
For instance, African countries where monkeypox is prevalent, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, do not have access to doses, nor are orders secure despite registering numerous deaths.
The report also noted that none of the nations in Africa are carrying doses in stock or orders to be placed. And Brazil which has reported as much as one in twelve cases across the globe does not have any doses on hand.
As of August 25 as of the 25th of August, the US had already received 1100,000 doses of vaccine for 16602 caseswhich is 66 doses per each instance, with nearly 7 million in total already ordered.
This month, advocates called on the Biden administration to utilize the Defense Production Act to ramp up and accelerate the production of additional completed Jynneos vaccine doses and to support the expansion and diversification of production capacities for vaccines across the globe.
