Pichai promises $20 million to train 11,000 students in computer science

San Francisco, Sep 2 : Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai have announced a grant of $20 million to provide computer science instruction for 11 million kids in the US.
This means that Google’s total commitment for the field of computer science to more than $240 million as of 2004.

“We’ll concentrate our efforts on supporting local and national organizations that serve students who are not served in major urban centers and rural communities and help educators and governments implement CS education programs across the nation,” Pichai said in an announcement in the late hours of Thursday.

This announcement is part of the “Grow with Google initiative, which includes the support of Google.org.

In the spring of this year, Google partnered with the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture to educate teachers with digital skills which will allow the organization to reach out to 200,000 rural schoolchildren by the close of the school year 2023.

“This summer I joined other CEOs to share an email in the direction of the need to make computer science an integral component of every school,” said Pichai.

Over 9 million individuals in the US have learned new skills through Growing with Google -which includes Google Career Certificates, which prepare individuals for positions in the fields that are growing.

“We believe that Google and other companies are accountable to assist people in acquiring the necessary skills to be able to find a job, establish an entrepreneurial venture and create a strong base for their families -regardless of their age or where they reside,” Pichai stressed.
