New Delhi, Sep 1 : Twitter on Thursday announced that it had rolled out a small test of its long-awaited Edit Tweet feature, which will be available to Twitter Blue users in the next few weeks.Edit Tweet is currently being tested by the Twiiter team members internally, amidst the ongoing legal dispute with Tesla CEO Elon Musk over the annulment of the $44 billion deal to buy Tesla.
“Given the fact that this is the most frequently requested feature we wanted to inform you about the progress we’ve made and give you a heads-up that even if not in the test group, all users will be able to determine whether a Tweet has been altered,” the company said in an announcement.
Edit Tweet lets users edit their Tweets after it’s published.
“Think of it as a brief period of time to complete tasks like correct typos, add missing tags, and so on,” said Twitter.
In the course of testing, tweets can be edited at least a few times in the 30 minutes after their publication.
Edited Tweets will be displayed with an icon, time stamp and a label, making it obvious to anyone who reads the tweet that the original tweet was altered.
Clicking the label will direct users to the tweet’s Edit History, which includes the previous versions of the Tweet.
“For context the time limit and version history play a crucial role in this. They safeguard the authenticity of the conversation and provide public records of the conversation,” informed Twitter.
Twitter stated that it is trying out Edit Tweet with a smaller group to understand how users might abuse the feature.
In the next month the company will also expand the editing of tweets available to Twitter Blue subscribers.
The test is limited to one country initially and then expand as “we study and watch how people utilize Edit Tweet”.
“We’ll be watching closely how the feature affects the ways people read or write and interact with tweets,” explained the company.
