New Delhi, Aug 29 : While the Congress claimed that there were no doubts regarding the procedure used for selecting the party’s president, some sources have stated that the party’s senior chief Anand Sharma did raise some concerns.In the Congress Working Committee meeting on Sunday, Sharma, one of the G-23’s leaders, addressed the matter of electoral rolls and also the method of elections at the lower levels after which Sonia Gandhi asked Madhusudan Mistry to discuss the issue, sources told.
However, the party denied the allegations and claimed that there was no doubt about the issue.Congress General Secretary for Communication Jairam Ramesh tweeted in tweet: “There is some dubious “source-based” plantation taking place in which questions were raised in the CWC meeting today about the Congress President’s election process and schedule.This is to be absolutely clear that NOBODY asked any question or doubt.”
Mistry confirmed that the list of the delegates will be made accessible to candidates who file nominations.
The Congress has announced that the election of its next president will take place on the 17th of October following an meeting of the Working Committee — the highest authority for making decisions in the party -which on Sunday approved the election schedule.
The date of notification of notice is September 22nd Nominations can be submitted between 11 a.m.until 3 p.m.from September 24 through 30, and scrutinizing will begin beginning on the 1st of October.The last day of the withdrawal deadline is October 8, and the day of voting is between 10 a.m.until 4 p.m.on October 17 at any PCC headquarters.
The Counting will take place on the 19th of October.
Senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who resigned from the Congress has said that the process for deciding elections is an utter sham.He had criticized Rahul Gandhi — who many are calling for to run for the party’s leadership again -for the party’s performance in the past eight years.
