Calm returns to Tripoli after fighting between militias killed 32

Tripoli 29 August : Tripoli, Aug 29 : Libyan capital of Tripoli was peaceful following fighting between rival factions of the armed forces resulted in the deaths of 32 people according to the Health Ministry said.
At least 159 people were wounded in the battle, which was the second time fighting has been observed in the last month in the city, amid an intensifying political conflict in oil-rich Libya DPA news agency said.Ministry in a statement on Sunday.

The latest round of violence broke out on Friday in the middle of Tripoli among two militias who are loyal to opposing government in the country.

It continued to rage for hours on Saturday.

Online videos showed numerous public and private structures as well as hundreds of automobiles damaged because of the violence.

A car was also destroyed, and another was damaged, the medical centre of the city said.

The previous Sunday Libyan media showed footage of cleaning-up work taking place on Tripoli streets.

Roads have reopened after being closed earlier due to violence.

Libya is in chaos since the ousting of the dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

Two different governments are fighting for the presidency in the North African country.

The Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh is seated in Tripoli.

However, the ruling government of the former Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha asserts power for itself, after being elected by the parliament that is located in the country’s eastern region.

Dbeibeh has repeatedly stated that he will only cede his power to an elected government.

The long-awaited Libyan election scheduled in December last year was postponed due to political turmoil, with no new date set for the vote.
