New Delhi, Aug 28 : The Congress has scheduled its Working Committee meet on Sunday to decide on the election schedule for the post of party president.The meeting follows the resignation of Ghulam Nabi Azad who has claimed that the entire process of the election was a farce and that proxies were supported.
“A virtual meeting of the CWC will be held on August 28th 2022 at 3:30 pm to approve the specific timetable of dates of the elections of the Congress President.Congress President Smt.Sonia Gandhi will preside over the CWC meeting,” K.C.Venugopal General Secretary of the party Organisation stated in his tweet.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is the most popular candidate for Congress president’s job.Sources have said that Sonia Gandhi had requested him to run during an event she held prior to her departure to undergo a medical check-up and treatment.
The Gehlot camp has not confirmed this development However, sources have said that the Congress was seeking to go beyond the Gandhis for the top job.Gehlot himself has stated that these developments were being discussed in the media, but he did not know of it.
The Central Election Authority of the Congress was waiting for an approval from the working committee of the party to announce the dates for the election of the new Congress President.The old party remains in the search of an unanimity contender for the top position following the denial of Rahul Gandhi.
