Idgah Maidan row: Karnataka govt appeals HC’s status quo order

Bengaluru on August 26 : The Karnataka government has filed an appeal against the High Court’s status quo ruling in relation with the controversy surrounding Idgah Maidan, which is located in Bengaluru’s Chamarajpet area.
In the decision one judge’s bench of Justice Hemanth ChandanaGoudar had instructed the government to take action to ensure that the dispute does not turn into an emergency situation, similar to the one over the hoisting of the tricolour on the Idgah Maidan of Hubballi in north Karnataka.

The BJP government has filed an appeal to a division bench, challenging the status quo order regarding the premises, which was not allowing to celebrate of Ganesh festival in the area, and requesting an appeal of the decision.

The change came because the government BJP is under pressure by Hindu activists who believe that Ganesh festival must be observed there.

The authorities have deployed police in the premises and installed CCTV cameras.Hindu activists have previously demanded the removal of Idgah tower from the site.

The Wakf Board is claiming the ownership of the land and has filed an application before the court of one judge to challenge the decision of the city’s civic body transfer the parcel of land to the Revenue Department.
