Tehran August 26, : The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) revealed the country’s first gamma radiation system that is multi-purpose in the city of Bonab in the northwestern region of Bonab.The idea of creating and developing a portable gamma system to radiate food was announced in January 2022 and was operational in August.
Mohammad Eslami, the head of AEOI was quoted by the Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA) as saying during the ceremony to unveil the system, Xinhua news agency reported.
Its applications include radiating agricultural products and food items which reduces their vulnerability to pests’ ravages, improve their storage capacity, and reduce 30 percent of food waste Eslami said.
“I think that within the next three years, we will see significant progress in the area of multi-purpose gamma-radiation system,” he said, encouraging the private sector and companies based on knowledge to get involved in this project.
The Iranian nuclear chief also stated that the AEOI plans to transform Iran into a center of nuclear power plant development in the region.
