Thiruvananthapuram 24 August : Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan who has been a pawn in the war with the Pinarayi Vijayan government Wednesday declared the state Assembly is an autonomous body with the power to pass Bills. He was speaking to the media shortly after his arrival from Delhi since during the time he was away in Delhi, the Kerala Assembly, in the last two days, passed several bills, among them one that eliminates the powers of the Governor’s role as Chancellor of Kerala universities.
“The Legislative Assembly has all the authority to fulfill its job, as the Assembly is an independent body.I will evaluate it using the scales of Governor.

“Whatever Bill is passed, I will not let the Vice-Chancellors to choose relatives of the people in the power,” a stern Khan added.
Khan and Vijayan have been at odds for years since the news broke that Priya Varghese, the wife of Vijayan’s private secretary K.K.Ragesh was approved to be appointed Associate Professor at Kannur University, even though there were more qualified candidates.
