K-pop festival KCON LA ends with blend of offline and virtual worlds

Los Angeles, Aug 23 : The Korean pop-culture festival KCON Los Angeles has wrapped the live edition with an additional multi-act concert that was a big hit in the city’s Crypto.com arena.
The fervor for Korean culture seemed unaffected by the Covid-19 pause, at the time that the digital natives of the genre gathered online and KCON transformed into KCON:TACT.

The convention, which was held in real-time for the first time since the beginning of 2019 was marked by the seamless transition between the fandom’s offline and online iterations as reported by Variety.

The organisers confirmed on Monday that the three-day event held at the Los Angeles Convention Centre attracted more than 90,000 actual visitors, and a further 7.17 million people worldwide via streaming video.

“The Asian American community existed 12 years ago (when KCON started.) They were in their homes.Now they’re everywhere.

They didn’t have a place to belong,” said Kevin Woo who is a San Francisco-born singer and actor who trained and found great success in the Korean talent system.He is scheduled to go to Broadway with K-Pop The Musical’ in mid-October.

In the ‘Variety’ show numerous convention floor exhibits featured the latest technology in video that let visitors to pose with celebrities or to incorporate their faces into scenes of Korean TV dramas .modern-day versions of the distorting mirrors as well as cardboard cut-outs of faces from circuses and fun fairs of the past.

“Variety” further states that the college-age fan seemed to cross the racial divides in America and were able to joyfully embrace many features of South Korean soft power.This included booths run by cosmetics and food companies.

Two days of Marketing Summit also gave KCON Los Angeles an enlightened commercial and academic perspective.The sidebar featured insightful talks by US university professors, as well as tutorials on platforms like TikTok designed to assist U.S.businesses harness the K-wave for themselves.
