Birmingham 23rd August : India all-rounder Krunal Pandya’s Royal London One-Day Cup stint with Warwickshire has been cancelled because of a groin strain he suffered during the game against Nottinghamshire on 17 August.Pandya suffered the injury when he scored 37 runs, and was unable to come back to the pitch until the next innings.
He was not a part in Warwickshire’s victory against Durham on Sunday, and also did not play in the match against Middlesex.
After a consultation with medical professionals, Pandya is likely to be absent for three weeks of cricketing activity, not allowing him to be available to play should Warwickshire get to the knockout stages.
Pandya has played in five ODIs as well as 19 T20Is in the past, with his last national appearance taking place in white-ball games against Sri Lanka in July 2021.
“It’s difficult losing Krunal for the duration of the tournament but he is leaving the club with our sincere wishes.
Krunal was a great role model for the group and I’m sure that the younger players of the team will have learned much from him as well off the field,” said Paul Farbrace Director of Cricket at Warwickshire.
In the five Royal London One-Day matches, Pandya 31 scored 134 runs with an average of 33.50 and a whopping 82-ball seventy-four in the match that was tied against Surrey at The Oval.He also took nine wickets with an average of 25 with his left-arm spin bowling, which included consecutive 3-wicket hauls against Sussex and Leicestershire.
“Due to the quick time frame, we won’t be signing as a replacement, but I’m extremely excited to see the team build after Sunday’s fantastic victory against Durham,” added Farbrace.
Krunal was one of two Indian players who were signed by Warwickshire in the current English County season.
In addition, he was available to play 50-over cricket and the sprinter Mohammed Siraj has been signed to play in the final three games of the County Championship season in Division 1.He will join the team following his participation in India’s victory in the ODI series by 3-0 over Zimbabwe.
