“The incident occurred on Sunday evening when a group of the Aahir community, who planned a Ganesh Utsav procession was stopped by police. The police confiscated the mobile phones of the organizers as well as the laptop of the DJ.Before the situation was about to get even more dire I went to the police station and requested the police to return the laptop and mobile phones. It was during this time that I had a disagreement with police. However, I did not accuse the police of any violence.

Police are spreading lies about me,” said BJP MLA Bharat Patel from Valsad in defense.

In the video footage MLA Bharat Patel is seen in a scathing manner towards police officers, who stopped the procession and when the Police Inspector of the district D.M.Dhol attempts to soothe the MLA Patel can be heard saying “We had cooperated with you during the Tazia procession was arranged, so why are you causing so much trouble to Hindus,.In the video the police officer is seen asking the MLA’s help in managing the situation. The MLA states “it is your responsibility to help to join me in the next of the Ganesh procession the next time, attempt to detain me.If I inform them that, there’ll be violence.”

Patel in an interview with IANS told IANS that there was a long procedure to obtain permission for a religious procession, to get the opinions of the magistrate, nagar palika Chief Officer and then only after that is the permission granted. This should be made easier and there needs to be a single time frame to do this.He denied the claim that he was threatening violence, and blamed the police for making false allegations against him.

Police Inspector Dhol informed IANS that he was discussing the issue with officers in the top ranks and was unable to speak on the matter.
