San Francisco, Aug 20 : Taiwanese tech company ASUS has recalled more than 10,000 ROG motherboards due to burn and fire dangers.
ASUS Computer International received 10 reports of ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboards (manufactured in Vietnam) overheating and melting, however no injuries have been reported.

The company recalls motherboards because the motherboard’s capacitor was placed in reverse, which could result in short circuits, overheating or melting, which could cause dangers of burns and fire according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

“This recall concerns ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboards for computers sold as a separate computer.The affected units have an identifier that begins with MA, MMB, and MC which indicates the year of manufacture in 2021.” the US consumer watchdog stated in an announcement.

The US agency advised that users should immediately stop using the motherboard in question and visit the ASUS website for instructions on how to return motherboard to ASUS for a replacement free of charge, including shipping.

In a separate announcement, ASUS announced that it had recently received reports of an incident involving the ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboard.

“In our ongoing investigations, we’ve found an underlying reversed capacitor problem in the manufacturing process on one of the production lines, which could result in the debug error code 53 No post or motherboard components to be damaged,” said the company.
