“Since July the beginning of July, hundreds of people have been killed in battles between groups in Haiti’s Cite Soleil,” Haq added.

“Many others are stuck in the conflict, denying them access to water as well as food and healthcare.”

He said that the high degree of insecurity is affecting the humanitarians’ access to affected people, either for cash or food distributions and the ability to access essential services like health and education for between 1 and 1.5 million people in neighborhoods controlled by gangs.

The spokesperson added that the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs which Griffiths is the head of estimates that close to 280,000 people have been affected by the crisis, Xinhua news agency reported.

He said that 2022’s Haiti Humanitarian Response Plan seeks $373 million, but it is only 14 percent fully funded.
