New Delhi, Aug 18 : Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, visited the megastar Amitabh Bachchan at the latter’s residence in Mumbai on Thursday and asked him to assistance with the National Road Safety Mission.
The Ministry has developed an approach that is multi-faceted to address the problem of road safety that is based on four E’s — engineering, education enforcement, emergency care and enforcement.

The number of accidents has been on an increasing trend in the past few years, data from the government revealed that there were a total of 3,48,279 people were injured in 366,138 road accidents across the country in 2020, which resulted in 1,31,714 deaths.

To raise awareness among the public about road safety To increase awareness about road safety, the Ministry has launched a variety of public relations initiatives and awareness campaigns about road safety via electronic media, social media and printed media.

Additionally the Ministry introduced an advocacy program for road safety to provide financial aid to various organizations for the administration of roads safety-related advocacy.

In addition road safety has also been integrated into the process of road design from the planning stage.

Road safety audits of every highway project is now obligatory at all stages, including design construction, construction, operation and maintenance.

In addition, a high priority has been given to the identification and correction of dark spots (accident prone spots) on National Highways and guidelines for pedestrian facilities on National Highways for persons with disabilities have also been provided to all states and the UTs.
