Bridgetown (Barbados) Bridgetown (Barbados) 12 : The Cricket West Indies (CWI) selection panel has included in the newcomer off-spinner Kevin Sinclair in the squad for the ODI series of three matches against New Zealand beginning August 17 and left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie is also included in the 14-member squad , but will need to undergo an evaluation of fitness on the finger injury he suffered during the match against India in the ODI series in Trinidad last month.Sinclair has made his international debut in T20I cricket last year against Sri Lanka and has so only played six games in the shorter format.
The three ODIs will be night and day matches at Kensington Oval in Barbados on August 17 19 and 21.
The three games will be West Indies’ last remaining games in the ICC ODI Super League as the Caribbean team is hoping to automatically be a part of the 2023 World Cup in India.West Indies will be seeking to win the series in order to be able to secure one of the automatic places reserved for the top seven teams in the ODI Super League table, with hosts India.
All-rounder Roston Chase isn’t available for selection due to an injury, and the all-rounder Fabien Allen is not available due to personal reasons.
“As we’ve stated before we are looking to expand the pool of players, and we have decided to offer Sinclair an chance in the ODI series with New Zealand.He is in the program for a few months now and was in the “A Team” to face Bangladesh “A” in the forthcoming series.
We believe that with his calm manner and aplomb he will be a success in the games against New Zealand,” said CWI chief selector Desmond Haynes.
“New Zealand is a excellent cricketing nation and this will be a highly competitive series.
We have faith in the players we have selected that they will perform very well.This is the final series of the season in the home stadium and it’s great to finish with some good performances as we work towards the ICC World Cup in India next year,” he added.
