Amazon is again fined for breaking labor laws in Spain

Barcelona 12 August : The tech giant Amazon is under investigation by the regional labor authorities for subcontracting practices over several of years in Catalonia, Spain.

In both cases the Generalitat penalized companies Amazon subcontracted delivery services or provided it with temporary employees.The Generalitat issued total fines of approximately 2.6 million euros in penalties to 17 businesses in the most recent instance.

“The Catalan Labour Inspectorate proposes a (total) fine of 5.8 million euros to Amazon for subcontracting workers in accordance with the Statute of Workers’ Rights,” a spokesperson for the regional government was quoted as saying.

Amazon was asked for a response, but an Amazon spokesperson stated: “We do not comment on ongoing legal proceedings,” — suggesting that it is trying to appeal.
