Frankfurt Airport sees 5mn passengers for 1st time since Covid

Berlin 11 August : Frankfurt Airport, Germany’s most important air transport hub has seen more than 5 million people in only one month in the first month since the first epidemic of coronavirus in the early 2020s.in the beginning of 2020, officials announced on Thursday.
The 5.02 million passengers who travelled in July saw an increase of 76.5 percent when compared to the same month last year, the dpa news agency reported airline operator Fraport as saying.

However, that was 27.4 percent less than 2019 which was the highest year ever for Frankfurt Airport.

Despite the smaller number of passengers in comparison to the pre-crisis time there were significant issues with handling of aircrafts because of staff shortages that resulted in delays and cancellations as airlines cut their schedules to ease the pressure on the airport.

Additionally, a long-running strike at the flag carrier Lufthansa caused the departure of approximately 100,000 passengers who would normally be there.

When it comes to the issue of the volume of cargo, Frankfurt lost 18 per percent of its cargo volume when compared with the month of July in 2021.

The reasons given were the closed airspace that surrounded Russia as well as Ukraine and the severe coronavirus ban in place in China.
