Frankfurt Airport sees 5mn passengers for 1st time since Covid

Berlin 11 August : Frankfurt Airport, the main hub for air travel in Germany has seen over 5 million travelers in only one month in the first month following the outbreak of coronavirus in the early 2020s.in the early 2020s, authorities declared on Thursday.
The 5.02 million passengers who traveled in July saw an increase of 76.5 percent in comparison to the same time in the previous year, dpa news agency reported airline operator Fraport as saying.

However, it was 27.4 percent less than the year before, which was an all-time record year for Frankfurt Airport.

Despite the lower number of passengers in comparison to the pre-crisis time there were serious issues with handling of aircrafts because of staff shortages, which resulted in delays and cancellations as airlines cut their schedules in order to lessen strain on the airport.

Additionally, a long-running strike at the flag carrier Lufthansa caused the departure of approximately 100,000 passengers who would normally be there.

When it comes to the issue of the volume of cargo, Frankfurt lost 18 per percent of its cargo volume when compared with the month of July in 2021.

The reasons given were airspace that was closed that stretches over Russia as well as Ukraine and the strict coronavirus restrictions in place in China.
