New Delhi, Aug 11 : A joint inquiry team constituted by the Pakistan government has uncovered an aggregate of 774 accounts on social media that are responsible for the bulk of the false claims and smears against the army, with the majority of them discovered to be operating from India and also from within Pakistan.
The disclosures came out during a meeting of the committee that was summoned by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for a briefing on the progress made in the case to date, The Express Tribune reported.

The Cyber Crimes Wing (CCW) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) also informed the Ministry about the proceedings in the case.

The inquiry team was informed that 17 accounts were discovered to be operated from India and some 204 accounts out of 774 accounts were managed by individuals in Pakistan, The Express Tribune reported.

The team also revealed that about 90 individuals who were selected in the course of the investigation were carefully investigated.

The news is in the midst of an ongoing online smear campaign, which is aimed at generating speculation regarding the crash of a helicopter which resulted in the death of six soldiers in Lasbela.

The conspiracy theory landed on fertile ground following similar claims were made by political activists who rebuked the military.

In the briefing on Wednesday people who attended the briefing confirmed that the Interior Ministry expressed satisfaction over the investigation and directed the inquiry body to continue with the “zero-tolerance approach”.
