Beijing 8th August : Sanya, a coastal city in China’s Hainan province, has begun an all-out effort to end the latest outbreak of Covid-19 that has left more than 80,000 of tourists stuck.Between August 1 and 7th, Sanya recorded 801 confirmed cases, and 409 asymptomatic cases the provincial health commission said on Monday.
The task force was formed to solve the issues of tourists who have been left stranded including travel refunds, according to Xinhua news agency, quoting the commission’s statements.
Additionally, the city commanded hotels to offer 50 % discounts.
The medical staff is working round all hours at nucleic acid testing sites throughout the city.
Wei Dixia, a head nurse at Sanya People’s Hospital, said the testing area at her hospital is open all hours of the day and tests around 4,000 people each day.
The process of screening has improved, with results now issued within six to eight hours following the test, according to Wei.
An aggregate of 33 hotels with more than 6,900 rooms are identified as isolated sites for close and sub-close contact of Covid-19 cases as per Ji Duanrong, secretary-general of the Sanya Municipal Government.
On the 6th of August, Sanya designated 168 areas as high-risk for Covid-19 , and 67 as medium-risk.
The city also has established an task force that will ensure that there are enough supplies of food and other necessities for residents who live under closed control, Ji said.
All public transportation in the city was shut down on the 6th of August, and the Sanya airport was closed to flights the next day, according to the state television.
In the month of March, more than one million residents in Wuhan the capital of Hubei province, where the Covid-19 pandemic first discovered, were placed in an emergency lockdown after four symptomatic cases were discovered.
Wuhan was also the very first city to be placed under strict restrictions as the pandemic in the world broke out in the early part of 2020.
In June, Shanghai emerged from a strict two-month lockdown, however Shanghai residents were still struggling to adjust to the “new normal” of frequent mass testing.
Since the beginning of the pandemic China has recorded an overall number of 231,266 cases of Covid-19 and 5,226 deaths.
