Chandigarh 6 August : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his Cabinet partner Harpal Cheema appeared on Saturday in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Aman Inder Singh here in the case of a riot that began two years ago.The AAP leaders took part in a party protest in January 2020 to protest against the current Congress government headed by Capt Amarinder Singh against the power tariff increase.
The court granted an exemption from appearance to another cabinet Minister Aman Arora.
A case was filed against AAP leaders including Mann and Cheema on the basis of throwing stones at Chandigarh Police with stones in the course of a protest on January 10 in 2020.
They were charged of violent rioting, assault, and obstructing police in the execution of their duties in the vicinity of the MLA’s house in Sector 4, Chandigarh.
In the last hearing on March 23 Mann, Cheema and other leaders were summoned to appear before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court.
Mann was represented by senior advocate Anmol Rattan, Sidhu, and advocate Pratham Sethi.
According to the police report, a total of about a dozen police officers suffered injuries when AAP supporters were allegedly throwing stones at them.
