Bangkok 5 August : At at least 13 people were killed and more than 20 others were injured after a fire broke out in an evening club in Thailand’s Chonburi province on Friday local media reported.
The fire that began to spread in the Mountain B nightclub at about 1 a.m.The fire is now under control and wounded have been treated in hospitals, Xinhua news agency reported.

The victims of the massacre – 9 males and 4 femaleswere all Thai nationals, according to Wisarut Petcharat, a rescue volunteer at the scene with the Sawang Rojana Thammasathan Foundation.

Wisarut said that the club in Chonburi in the province of Chonburi located 150km south of Bangkok was a single-storey facility that covered 4,800 square meters.

An investigation into the root of the incident was in progress, he added.

Premier Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha announced Friday that the families of victims will receive help from the authorities.

He also urged entertainment venues across the nation to ensure they have emergency exits and security precautions in place, as reported by the BBC.

This isn’t the only time that a fire broke out in an Thai nightclub.

In 2009 more than 60 persons died in Bangkok following an explosion erupted at the Santika Club in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Two men including the club’s owner of the club, were convicted in the year 2011.

A fire in an nightclub in Phuket in 2012 killed four people and injured twelve others.
