An Air India flight carrying 242 people arrived in Delhi on Wednesday morning.The plane flew directly to Delhi from the Ukrainian capital Kiev.
About 20,000 Indians live in various parts of Ukraine for education and trade.Concerned about their safety in the wake of the war, the Indian embassy advised them to return to India immediately.
In view of the situation in Ukraine, the Civil Aviation Authority of India has decided to increase the number of flights to evacuate Indians there.An Air India Boeing 787 flight from India to Ukraine left for Ukraine on Tuesday morning and returned to Delhi on Wednesday morning.
The first plane carrying 242 Indian nationals has arrived in Delhi as part of the evacuation process as part of the Vande Bharat Mission.Air India said it would resume two more flights on February 24 and 26.
The Indian students who arrived in Delhi from Ukraine spoke to the media at the Delhi International Airport.They say the current situation in Ukraine is normal.
But Indian embassy officials said there were indications that the situation was becoming tense in the future, adding that the students had come to India following the advice of the embassy.They explained that the Air India Boeing 787 took off from the Ukrainian capital Kiev at 6 pm on Tuesday and arrived here (Delhi).
The students said it was calm when they returned to India.Students hope that online classes can continue in the current circumstances.
