The number of donkeys in Rajasthan has dropped by 71 per cent.The state had 81,000 donkeys in 2012, down from 23,000 by 2019.The number of donkeys in Gujarat has declined by 70.94 per cent.The state had 39,000 donkeys in 2012, down from 11,000 by 2019.In fact, the number of donkeys in our Telugu states has always been very low.Donkeys are brought to Telugu states from Bihar and Maharashtra for consumption.However, the number of donkeys in the respective states has also come down drastically.In Bihar, the number of donkeys fell by 47.31 per cent.The total number of donkeys in the state dropped from 21 thousand in 2012 to 11 thousand in 2019.The number of donkeys in Maharashtra has declined by 39.69 per cent.The state had 29,000 donkeys in 2012, down from 18,000 by 2019.According to the Livestock Census 2019, there are 1.12 lakh donkeys in India.The main reason for the decline in the number of donkeys .Illegal export of donkeys to other countries.In most countries, people eat donkey meat.Their milk is also used in many things.Donkeys are also bought abroad at a huge rate.It is in this context that many traders are buying and selling donkeys illegally.
