The second Omicron death was recorded in the country.It came to light in Sambalpur district of Odisha.
A 55-year-old woman from Agalpur village died on December 27 while undergoing treatment with corona at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla.
Balangir district medical officials on Thursday officially announced that her samples had been sent for genome sequencing testing and confirmed to be Omicron.
Balangir Chief District Medical Officer Snehalatha Sahu said she had a heart attack on December 20 and had no foreign travel history.He said he was referred to VIMSAR in Burla after two days of treatment at Bhima Bhoi Medical College Hospital in Balangir.
She was admitted there on December 22 and tested positive for corona the next day.Snehalatha Sahu said that her samples were confirmed as omicron after genome sequencing test.She died at the hospital on December 27 due to declining health.
On the other hand, the state medical authorities, especially the Sambalpur district authorities, were alerted when the first Omicron death was reported in Odisha.
Corona tests were performed on those who had been in contact with the woman who had died with Omicron.The country’s first Omicron death was reported in Rajasthan.
The central government on Wednesday said that a 72-year-old man from Udaipur was technically killed by Omicron.
