Jammu : , January 1, 2017: The authorities announced Saturday that they would provide helpline numbers to relatives and friends of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine devotees.In Jammu 12 were killed and 14 others were injured during a stampede.

PMO declared ex-gratia relief in the amount of Rs 2 lakh for each of the deceased stampede survivors.

J&K Lt.Governor Manoj Sinha announced Rs 10 Lakh each to the next-of-kin for those who were killed in the stampede.

Around 2.45 am Saturday, a stampede broke out when large numbers of devotees entered Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan despite not having received permission slips for the new year.

Officials claimed that the stampede occurred outside of the Santorum shrine.
